RemoteAccess 0.03 changes document
==================================
Bug fixes
---------
* Many of the problems that people were experiencing with
modem initialisation in stand-alone mode have been cured.
* RemoteAccess now correctly recognises independent and
administrative nodes, in addition to correctly handling
duplicate net numbers in multiple zones.
* The ^A control character now works properly in a menu type
40 command (display file w/ hotkeys).
* RAUSER no longer inserts spurious line numbers in the system
log when the log is set to Opus type.
* <X>port message function now gets the name of the area the
message was exported from right.
* The file transfer ratio system was a little unfriendly to new
users; the ratio is now calculated using Uploads+1.
* The forward message function no longer jumps to the forwarded
message on a <N>ext command.
* Changes in security level and flag settings are checked dynamically
during a menu display, rather than when the menu is redrawn.
* Changed the minimum length of a valid user name from 5 to 3
characters.
* The read/individual and delete message functions no longer report
occasionally that "message number <random number> does not exist".
* The "seconds remaining" text file control code now correctly
displays zero, rather than sixty.
* The questionnaire "GetChoice" command now properly echoes the
user's response.
* Xmodem(1K/1K-g) uploads now correctly increment the user's Total K
uploaded record correctly.
* The "Who else online" function no longer dies if it encounters an
uninitialised line record.
* RA no longer asks a new user if he/she wants hotkeys if the
hotkey option is set to "No" in RACONFIG.
* Selecting '<Q>uit, <N>o' from the internal msg editor now correctly
returns to the editing menu.
* Changed the "today's callers" list formatting to be
"Procomm friendly".
* The "minimum transfer speed" option in RACONFIG now works correctly.
* Users' time limits are now checked immediately upon returning from a
type 7 menu command.
* Strict password checking is now enforced when a new user chooses
his/her initial password.
* Fixed all the network-related file sharing problems.
* The message forwarding function now inserts the name of the area
that the message was forwarded FROM correctly.
* All inactivity timeout problems have been cured.
* The PHONENUM.CTL support in 0.02 was a little broken. This has
been fixed.
* Fixed a nasty bug which allowed users to [R]ead [I]ndividual
private messages addressed to another user.
* Fixed a small cosmetic bug that was causing the "wait for call"
window not to close correctly when a call came in. This would only
ever happen if the status bar had been disabled.
* The "where are you calling from" prompt no longer forces capitals.
* The "move file" menu function now correctly logs the name of the
file, source and target directories.
* The "SetSecurity" questionnaire command now updates the users
online time correctly.
* Users are no longer granted access to message areas whose name
fields are blank.
* Using shell to mailer mode either with the fast logon option
enabled, or no LOGO.ASC file, would cause an extra carriage
return to be inserted into RA's internal prompt buffer. This
has been fixed.
* Users no longer have the option of changing the "to" field when
posting a message with the /T= parameter.
* Yes/No type prompts now require a carriage return when in command
stack mode.
Enhancements ({+} - available in registered mode only)
------------------------------------------------------
* Two new message reading functions :
<=> - mark current message as unreceived.
{+} <U> - update the security level of the user who the message
is from (provided of course that the user is in your
user file).
* Users are now REQUIRED to enter a valid description for all
files uploaded.
* RAUSER accepts 2 new command-line parameters:
-V - verbose logging; lists any users deleted during pack.
-M[s] - maximum security level to be affected by a pack/kill.
eg. -M100 would exempt all users with security level
100 and above from a pack.
* "Search for new files" menu command now accepts a specific search
date.
* Three new type 7 (shell) parameters:
*# - turns off the "want chat" indicator on return.
*1 - Current message template area number.
*0 - Current file template area path.
* CDROM support, by way of the separate path to FILES.BBS (or any
other list of files).
* Seven new menu functions:
{+} Type 43 - display msg areas that contain unread messages
Type 46 - display any text file and wait for CR
Type 49 - select the current message template area.
Type 50 - select the current file template area.
{+} Type 56 - browse the nodelist.
Type 57 - change user's home/voice phone number
Type 58 - change user's work/data phone number
* The current line number (ie. -Nn) may be inserted in the origin
line by using the '@' macro character.
* An extra line is inserted after the 'Replying to a message ...'
in a message quote block.
* RANODE is a little easier to use; concatenation of multiple
nodelists is no longer required. Simply specify the filenames
of any additional (ie. not the FidoNet NODELIST.nnn file) nodelists
on the command-line. Each raw nodelist file is indexed separately,
eliminating the need for a single nodelist "megafile" in a
multi-nodelist environment.
* Five new text-file control codes:
^KY - Name of currently selected template message area.
^KZ - Name of currently selected template file area.
^K0 - Number of msgs in currently selected msg area.
^K1 - Number of currently selected template message area.
^K2 - Number of currently selected template file area.
* RemoteAccess will now search for it's overlay file (RA.OVR) in
the directory pointed to by the RAOVR environment variable.
* Hourly system usage graph is now autoscaling.
* The "use alias?" prompt will now default to "No".
* The page sysop tone is configurable. You may have anything from
a simple beep to a five minute musical masterpiece :-) Make sure
you copy the PAGE.RA file into your RA system directory.
* F5 activates an additional status bar containing users message
reading/posting stats.
* The DEL key (#127) is now remapped to a BS (#8) to assist users
with non-standard terminal emulations.
* RA will now read DOBBS.BAT to get the time of the next event
according to the front-end, when in shell to mailer mode.
* File transfers using external protocols are now logged internally
by RA, showing the protocol used, file name and file size.
* The "find file by name" menu command now accepts DOS wildcard and
pattern matching characters.
* The ALT-T and ALT-F sysop hotkeys have been replaced by a
full-screen pop-up user attribute editor on ALT-E. (ALT-S has been
retained for "quick & dirty" security updating).
* The "raw directory" menu command (type 30) now allows the user
to enter a search filespec.
* Added remote ^S/^Q support at the FOSSIL level.
* The name of the currently selected message and file template areas
may now be used in the "make log entry" (type 47) menu command by
using the standard @ and ` macro characters as they would be used
in a menu display line.
* The text files STARTCHT.A?? and ENDCHT.A?? are displayed (if present)
at the start and end of a chat session respectively.
* The ALT-FKeys may now be used to display a text file by placing a
'#' as the first character of the command-line for a particular key.
For example: #WELCOME would display the correct (ASC/ANS) version
of your welcome file to the user.
{+} * Added a keyboard password lock feature. All ALT-keys may be locked
with a secret password by using the -K[pwd] command-line parameter
when RA is fired up.
* Added an 'are you sure?' prompt when the user elects to [k]ill
all mail addressed to him/her at the check for new mail function.
* The local console may now send control/extended ASCII characters
to the remote. For example, pressing CTRL-G will now sound the
user's bell.
* Running in "pre-registered" mode, RemoteAccess now asks a newuser
to confirm that he/she entered his/her name correctly before
dropping carrier.
* The system log now records any aliases that were used to post
messages, in addition to user security and remaining time at the
point of log-on.
* Placing a "/N" on the optional data line for a questionnaire menu
command will suppress all log entries for that questionnaire.
* Implemented the "Upload message" option. Users can now upload
messages using any of the six internal protocols.
* Pressing "?" from the file transfer protocol selection menu will
display the textfile XFERHELP.A??. Note that the help option is
only diaplayed to the user if the help file is actually present.
